Following the DHS’ announcement on July 8, 2025, travelers in standard security lanes no longer need to remove their shoes—many travelers are asking the question, “Is TSA PreCheck® still worth it?” This policy update has caused some to reconsider the value of the TSA PreCheck® enrollment fee, but our take is that the membership still offers considerable advantages.

TSA PreCheck® is a trusted traveler government program administered by the Transportation Security Administration. When you enroll in TSA PreCheck® through CLEAR, the fee is $79.95 for five years. You can then add your KTN when booking flights to get the TSA PreCheck® indicator on your boarding pass.
The July 8, 2025 policy update now allows travelers in standard lanes to keep their shoes on. While this may seem like a reason to forgo getting TSA PreCheck®, it's only one of the many benefits that come with the membership.
