CLEAR Airport Guide: Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is the primary gateway to Atlanta and a major connection point for destinations across the U.S. and around the world.

From culinary favorites of the South and Atlanta-inspired shopping to public art and local culture, here’s everything you can experience during your time at ATL.

Why Fly Through Hartsfield-Jackson?

Hartsfield-Jackson connects travelers to more than 150 domestic destinations and dozens of international cities across six continents. As Delta Air Lines’ largest hub and one of the world’s busiest connecting airports, ATL offers extensive options for travel throughout the U.S. and beyond.

Despite its size, ATL has a straightforward layout. Seven concourses are connected by the Plane Train and pedestrian walkways, helping travelers move between flights, explore another concourse, or head straight to their departure gate.

Did You Know? Hartsfield-Jackson has been one of the world’s busiest airports for decades, helping Atlanta become a global center for business, culture, and commerce. Today, ATL connects travelers to more than 160 domestic and 80 international destinations, with 80% of the U.S. population within a two-hour flight.

Experience the Best of Atlanta at Hartsfield-Jackson

Atlanta pairs Southern hospitality with a global outlook, and Hartsfield-Jackson brings that same energy to the airport. From hometown restaurants and international flavors to public art and local culture, there are plenty of ways to experience the city without leaving the terminal.

CLEAR Ambassador Picks: Where to Eat at Hartsfield-Jackson

Atlanta’s food scene is rooted in Southern traditions while drawing inspiration from around the world. At ATL, you’ll find hometown institutions, local favorites, and global flavors throughout the concourses.

CLEAR Ambassadors recommend Varasano’s Pizzeria in Concourse A, where pizza comes with live piano music at the airport’s Piano Bar and Pizzeria. The vegan pizza is an Ambassador favorite.

In Concourse B, Paschal’s Southern Cuisine serves classic Southern fare, and CLEAR Ambassadors recommend the fried fish. In Concourse C, they recommend Bantam + Biddy for Southern cuisine. Chicken + Beer in Concourse D brings Atlanta native Ludacris’ take on Southern soul food to the airport.

In Concourse E, One Flew South is a CLEAR Ambassador pick for cocktails and elevated Southern fare. In Concourse F, CLEAR Ambassadors recommend Ecco, especially the fried goat cheese, shrimp cavatelli, and seared salmon.

You’ll find even more Atlanta favorites throughout ATL. Grindhouse Killer Burgers has locations in Concourses T and D, while Chick-fil-A, founded in metro Atlanta, has locations in Concourses A and C. In Concourse B, SweetWater Last Cast Bar & Grill serves beer from Atlanta-founded SweetWater Brewing Company.

Where to Shop at Hartsfield-Jackson

Atlanta’s creative spirit is reflected well in the airport, where local brands, craftsmen, and entrepreneurs offer plenty of ways to bring a piece of the city home with you.

In Concourse B, The Village Retail brings together products from Black-owned brands and local entrepreneurs, while Atlanta Influences Everything offers apparel and accessories inspired by the city’s culture and creative influence.

You’ll also find Atlanta Beltline Market, featuring Atlanta BeltLine merchandise and locally inspired goods connected to the neighborhoods and communities along one of the city’s signature destinations.

In Concourse E, travelers can shop SPANX, the globally recognized apparel brand founded in Atlanta.

Make the Most of Your Time at Hartsfield-Jackson

Whether you have an hour before boarding or extra time between flights, Hartsfield-Jackson offers plenty of ways to experience Atlanta's art, history, and creative culture along the way.

Before You Board

If you're near Concourses A or B, take a walk through Flight Paths, an immersive light, sound, and video installation in the Transportation Mall between the two concourses. Inspired by Georgia's natural landscape, the installation offers a memorable alternative to taking the Plane Train between A and B.

Travelers near Concourse T can continue through the Transportation Mall to Zimbabwe: A Tradition in Stone, a collection of contemporary stone sculptures by Zimbabwean artists located between Concourse T and Concourse A.

If You Have Extra Time

ATL's connected concourses, pedestrian Transportation Mall, and Plane Train make it easy to explore beyond your departure gate without leaving the secure area.

Take time to discover more of ATL's Airport Art Program as you walk through concourses. Between Concourses B and C, A Walk Through Atlanta History traces the city's story and growth into a global destination. You can also explore rotating exhibitions throughout the airport, browse Atlanta-inspired shops, or enjoy a meal before your flight.

Local Insight: Before Hartsfield-Jackson became the world’s busiest airport, the site was an abandoned auto racetrack. In 1925, the City of Atlanta leased the 287-acre property and began developing it into an airfield known as Candler Field.

Long Layovers

If you have several hours between flights, MARTA's Red and Gold Lines connect directly to the Domestic Terminal, making it easy to reach downtown Atlanta.

Once downtown, you can visit the Georgia Aquarium or explore Atlanta's Civil Rights history at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. For more ideas, check out our guide to making the most of a layover in Atlanta.

Tight Connection

Making a connection at ATL? Check your departure gate as soon as you land. All seven concourses are connected beyond airport security by the Plane Train, so you can travel between them without leaving the secure area. If your connection is especially short, head straight to your next gate before stopping for food or shopping.

Navigate Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

Know Your Terminal

Hartsfield-Jackson has two terminals, the Domestic Terminal and the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal, and seven concourses: T, A, B, C, D, E, and F. All seven concourses are connected beyond airport security, so travelers can move between them without leaving the secure area.

The Domestic Terminal is divided into North and South sides for ticketing, check-in, and baggage claim. Delta Air Lines uses the South side, while other domestic airlines use the North side. International airlines generally use the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal for check-in.

Because airline assignments can change, check ATL’s official airline directory before your trip.

Getting Between Terminals

Beyond airport security, the Plane Train connects Concourses T, A, B, C, D, E, and F. Travelers can also walk between concourses through the Transportation Mall, where several of ATL’s public art installations are located.

If you need to travel between the Domestic and International terminals before airport security, ATL offers a free shuttle between them.

Airport Security

CLEAR+ Members can head to CLEAR+ Lanes at the Domestic Terminal North, Domestic Terminal South, and International Terminal to speed through airport security in seconds.

Traveler Tip: Connecting at ATL? You don’t need to leave the secure area to change concourses. Take the Plane Train for a quick trip between concourses, or walk through the Transportation Mall if you have more time and want to see some of ATL’s public art along the way.
