Some meals are worth planning a trip around. We asked travelers on Instagram and Reddit the one meal around the world they felt was worth the flight. While their answers included many different destinations and cuisines, one thing remains certain: when the travel day can feel seamless with CLEAR+, the flight to your favorite dish might just be worth the trip.
Editor’s Note: Restaurant suggestions are based on current menus and reputable listings, not places named by travelers specifically. We suggest confirming hours, menus, and reservations before visiting.

Italy received eight of the 27 destination responses. Six Instagram respondents chose pasta or pizza; Reddit added pizza and chicken Parmesan.
Specific cravings included pasta alla vodka, pasta in Rome, and cacio e pepe in Florence. Cacio e pepe combines pasta, Pecorino Romano, and black pepper. In Rome, Felice a Testaccio is known for tossing it tableside. For Neapolitan pizza, consider L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele in Naples.

Japan received five destination responses for sushi, ramen, all-you-can-eat beef, and katsu curry.
One respondent imagined a hole-in-the-wall Osaka ramen shop where a chef had spent decades perfecting tonkotsu ramen. Tonkotsu originated in Kyushu, but Osaka’s varied ramen scene gives chefs room to personalize the pork-bone broth, noodles, and toppings. Another traveler chose katsu curry: Japanese curry and rice topped with a crisp breaded cutlet.
In Osaka, ICHIRAN Dotonbori Annex specializes in tonkotsu ramen. Sushi Harasho offers high-end sushi, Ganso Tonkatsu Curry Katsuya serves katsu curry, and Yakiniku Rikimaru Shinsaibashi offers all-you-can-eat yakiniku courses.

Mexico received two responses. One traveler chose Mexico City’s wider food scene, which could mean a taco crawl, neighborhood market, or reservation at Pujol.
The other wanted tacos from the coast city of Manzanillo, Colima. Travelers researching current options can start with Tacos Ramón, which has served handmade-tortilla tacos since 1988.
One traveler wanted to return to Australia to visit family and share a sausage roll and lamington. A sausage roll wraps seasoned meat in pastry; Sydney’s Bourke Street Bakery is known for its pork and fennel version. A lamington is a sponge cake coated in chocolate and coconut, with Tokyo Lamington offering classic and creative versions.
One respondent would travel home to their mom’s house for biscuits and gravy. Another joked that they’d go only as far as their kitchen for baked beans. These responses point to the same truth: food can bring us back to comfort, memory, and home.
Beyond Italy, Japan, and Mexico, travelers named destinations in 12 more countries.
One respondent offered two choices: Peru’s iconic pollo a la brasa and escargot in Paris, France. Peru’s marinated rotisserie chicken is commonly served with fries, salad, and sauces; La Granja Azul traces its version to the dish’s origins. In Paris, L’Escargot Montorgueil has served Burgundy snails for nearly two centuries.
Colombia earned a vote for bandeja paisa, a platter of beans, rice, meat, egg, plantain, avocado, and arepa. Hatoviejo serves it at several Medellín locations.
At Hellshire Beach in Jamaica, fish fry with bammy, a cassava flatbread, and festival, a slightly sweet fried bread, earned a vote as well. Prendy’s on the Beach is one place to start.
Barcelona, Spain was paired with paella, a rice dish prepared with ingredients ranging from meat and beans to seafood. The historic 7 Portes is known for Catalan rice dishes.
Malta was chosen for pastizzi, flaky pastries commonly filled with ricotta or curried peas. Try them at the iconic Is Serkin, Crystal Palace in Rabat.
Lagos, Nigeria made the list for jollof rice, made with rice, tomatoes, peppers, onions, and spices. Molabat Kitchen specializes in smoky jollof and has several Lagos locations.
Vienna, Austria was chosen for Wiener schnitzel, a breaded and fried veal cutlet. Figlmüller is one of the city’s best-known schnitzel restaurants.
One respondent returned to Inveraray, Scotland, seven years later for another haggis panini. The George Hotel serves traditional haggis, neeps, and tatties as well as haggis bonbons.
Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago made the list for doubles - curried chickpeas and sauces between fried flatbreads and roti wrapped around curried meat or vegetables. Try George & Son Doubles and Pies or Patraj Roti Shop.
Another respondent chose a Monte Cristo sandwich in Ashland, Oregon. The Breadboard serves one with turkey, ham, Swiss cheese, and powdered sugar.
Travelers who participated in the conversation offered a useful audience snapshot. Instagram leaned toward Italy, while Reddit favored Japan. Respondents also named specific cities, beaches, restaurants, and meals connected to family or memory. Familiar favorites mattered as much as novelty.
Check the restaurant’s location, opening days, reservation policy, and seasonal schedule. If it’s the reason for your trip, have a backup in case plans change.
A destination-worthy meal doesn’t have to come from a famous restaurant. Ask locals about neighborhood favorites, and leave room for smaller spots that reflect the character of the place you’re visiting.
Foodborne illness can happen at any restaurant; size, popularity, and online reviews don’t guarantee safety. Follow current destination guidance and the CDC’s food and water precautions, especially where sanitation or water quality is uncertain.
Wash your hands before eating. Choose food that’s fully cooked and served hot, and use extra care with raw or undercooked meat, seafood, eggs, unpasteurized dairy, untreated water, and ice when you aren’t confident about the source. Travelers with allergies, medical dietary needs, or a higher risk of foodborne illness should confirm ingredients and preparation directly and consult a clinician before travel when appropriate.
Don’t squeeze the experience between a tight connection and departure. Leave time to reach the restaurant, enjoy the meal, and explore the neighborhood.

The meal worth traveling for might be one you’ve dreamed of trying, a favorite you want to taste again, or food that brings you back to people and places you miss. Where would you go for one meal?
CLEAR collected 16 Instagram answers and 13 top-level Reddit comments. One nonspecific Reddit comment was excluded. Another Reddit comment named two destinations, and both were counted as full responses, leaving 29 food-and-destination responses across the two platforms. Country totals use the 27 responses that named a travel destination; two home-based answers were included only in the qualitative discussion. Follow-up comments were used for context and weren’t counted as additional responses.
The results are directional and aren’t representative of all travelers.
